I just realized that I've only written one blog in all of 2010!! What's wrong with me? Am I running out of things to rant about? Have I lost touch with society? Am I tired of reading my own thoughts? No wonder my readership is down! Maybe there's just too much out there, and I'm suffering from information overload. Maybe things are getting better in the world, so now I'm a happy, fulfilled human being just enjoying each day and living in the moment! Lets' look at few things going on in the world, and you tell me- aren't things just ducky?
- There's a gigantic blob of oil is sauntering it's way around the Gulf of Mexico. Just think of it; soon you can fry your shrimp without the use of added oil in the pan. I smell money saved here, along with a healthier lifestyle.
- GM paid back all of the loan the government gave them (our tax money), and sales of GM cars are way up. What management! All this in a few short months. Nobody was buying cars and now they are! They did all this without hiring back any of the thousands of workers they laid off. To top it off, we taxpayers still own a major portion of the company in the form of stock, because they didn't pay that part back yet. It's wonderfully creative accounting, that would make any mother proud.
-Greece is nearly bankrupt, with Spain, Portugal and Italy not far behind. The European Union and especially Germany, and the World Bank, is loaning them money to get back on their feet. Even the US Federal Reserve is thinking of kicking in a few billion. Lets' keep printing up money, and save everyone. It's the right thing to do. Forget about inflation and $16.00 loaves of bread. Sharing is caring. I can see Greeks driving around in GM Chevy Malibu's now.
- The guy's on Wall Street somehow figured out how to short the market big and as it dropped a thousand points last week, they cleaned up. It's good to see people make money. They didn't let the regular folk know so I, for one, missed out on the cash, but at least somebody got it. I'm so happy for them. In fact, now that I think about, that would be a good way for the banks and companies like GM to pay back the TARP money- by letting it ride on the market, and have a friend tilt the table so it "lands on black". Think they fiqured this out? I hope my friends at the casino let me rig the tablet, then I can have all my bills paid too.
-The US Dept of Labor reported 260,000 people got jobs last month, but unemployment rose to 9.9 per cent. Must be that same guy that's at GM doing the numbers. Creativity counts today. It give us hope.
-The US Department of Transportation is on a mission to make sure we all wear our seat belts by running many TV ads showing police out in force writing tickets to those who don't conform. After all, the police don't have anything better to do, and since the Transportation Department is behind on fixing the roads and bridges, we'll need those seat belts buckled as the road collapses from under us. I feel good that they're looking after us.
No wonder why I'm so happy!! Things are looking brighter. I now know, too, that it always pays to drink half a bottle of Jack Daniels before writing, just like I did now, because it gives me a more positive outlook on things.
Problem is, I'll be sober in the morning- but the ugliness never goes away.
